STAN HARRINGTON – Filmmaker / Author / Speaker

Who is Stan Harrington? On his website, http://www.xristosproductions.com/, he is introduced to us with the following biography.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Stelios Georgiadis Stan moved to the US to pursue a career in the theatrical arts. Since 1996, from his artistic home at the Stella Adler Theater, Stan went on to become a prolific producer, writer and director of theatre.

Stan's first feature, "Bred in the Bone", shot for a mere $5,000, won Best in Show, Best Actress and Best Screenplay at the Action On Film Festival: and Best Feature at the FAIF Festival at Mann's Chinese in Hollywood. Since then, Stan has gone on to produce award winning films, pilots and a Documentary for as low as $22. His second feature, "The Craving Heart", another SAG feature shot for a mere $8,500 and featuring Golden Globe winner, John Saxon, has amassed 23 nominations for 10 wins. His Documentary, “So You Want Michael Madsen?" Shot for $44 examines the need and desire to secure name talent for independent films and includes EMMY Winner, Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men), Paula Jai Parker (Hustle and Flow), Jim Parrack (True Blood), Michael Beach (Waiting to Exhale), and Doug Hutchison (The Green Mile).

Since 2006 Stan has travelled nationally and internationally as an invited speaker on Guerilla Filmmaking, writing and acting for organizations such as the NAB, Conference in Las Vegas, The Self Employment in the Arts Conference (Chicago, Los Angeles), Women In Film (Hollywood) and Screen Actors (Australia).
Stan also created the International Guerilla Filmmaker Database (www.IGFdb.com) as a free service and resource to other Guerilla Filmmakers and to create a hub where Filmmakers and Festivals can connect and his book, "A Guerilla In the Midst", published by The Sundance Media Group, was released at the NAB Conference in April, 2007 and is now available on Amazon or his website, www.xristosproductions.com
In 2005 it was my great honor to meet Stan at the F.A.I.F (Foundation for Advancement of Independent Arts) International Film Festival, at Mann’s Chinese 6 Theatres is Hollywood, when he screened his award winning film “Bred in the Bone,” and it has been my honor and privilege to view almost all of his work since then,

Although Stan came to the US to be an actor, he actually became an award winning writer and director (acting in his own films) until he attracted attention from fellow filmmaker Kely McClung also an award winning writer and director, with such films as award winning “Blood Ties” and “Kerberos.” Kely saw the great acting abilities that Stan has and asked him to be in “Kerbros” and his newest film now in production “Altered.”

It really goes without saying that Stan is a great writer, as to make a great film, you first need a great story. After he made his first feature film for a mere $5,000.00 (complete from first call of action to completed film coming out of Post Production, many people asked him how he was able to do it. How could he make a hugely successful feature film for under $10k? So he sat down and wrote, "A GUERILLA IN THE MIDST", RELEASED BY THE SUNDANCE MEDIA GROUP/VASST, which offers an insight into the world of no-budget film making using his first feature "Bred in the Bone", as a blueprint. In this inspirational book, the multi-award winning Harrington guides us through the method and the commitment needed to complete, not just a project, but a thought-provoking and valuable motion picture. As a bonus, a copy of "Bred in the Bone" will come with each copy. Originally released at NAB2007, the book can now be purchased online at http://www.vasst.com/ and at The Samuel French Book Store, Hollywood. At only $29.99 for the book and the feature, this book serves as a must read, and an essential addition to any independent filmmakers library.
